LAW399   Copyright & Related Rights   (20 credits)

Year Running: 2016/2017
Credit level: F6
Additional Information   Only available to law students.

Description

The modern consumption of copyright protected works through ever more accessible means puts pressure on a law effectively aimed at a last century society for whom accessing the internet was strictly a fringe activity. This module adopts a traditional learning approach to exploring the nature of copyright works from national and international perspectives. It provides a link between legal study and application of the law in a real world context. The major benchmarks for bringing legal proceedings in copyright are covered in detail, including subsistence, qualification, jurisdiction, duration, ownership, moral and economic infringements, evidence gathering, defences and remedies. Special emphasis is placed upon comparisons with French and American law.
